BRIER CITY COUNCIL MINUTES

August 10, 2010

Mayor Colinas called the regular Brier City Council Meeting to order at 7:30:29 PM and the flag salute was given.

 

Roll Call:                 

PRESENT:                                  Mayor Colinas; Councilmember Corpron-Smith, Gem, Krienke, Steele, Gallagher and Olson.

ABSENT:                                    Councilmember Kaemingk.

STAFF:                                       City Planner Gaudette.

 

Public Requests & Oral Communications:

Rita Irvine-23406 29th Ave W- Concerned that the City of Brier was planning on dissolving the Police Department.

Kevin Starkey-3093 224th Pl SW- Heard rumor that Police Department was being dissolved.

Tim Irvine-23406 29th Ave W- Concerned that the City might dissolve the Police Department.

Peggy Dare-22320 Hickory Way- Thankful for the Police Department and would like to see rumors put to a stop.

 

Mayor Colinas gave a brief presentation from the U.S. Census Bureau. The City of Brier was presented with a Certification of Appreciation for 2010 from the U.S. Census Bureau. The City of Brier mailed back 81% of their census forms.

 

Reports of Committees & City Officials:

Councilmember Steele reviewed the warrants.

Councilmember Olson attended National Night Out and reported on the great turn out.

 

Approval of Minutes:

Mayor Colinas opened for consideration approval of the Brier City Council Minutes of July 27, 2010. Councilmember Corpron-Smith made a MOTION to approve the Brier City Council Minutes of July 27, 2010. Councilmember Olson SECONDED. Motion Carried.

 

Hearings:

Mayor Colinas opened initial discussion for the Public Hearing on Ordinance No. 382 amending Planning Commission Guidelines 7:51:46 PM . City Planner Nicole Gaudette gave a brief overview. Mayor Colinas opened the Public Hearing at 7:53:54 PM.  Tim Irvine-23406 29th Ave W., would like to see the notices for Public Hearings to be in bigger print. Peggy Dare-22320 Hickory Way, feels there is not enough for the Planning Commissioners to do. Councilmember Olson made a MOTION to close the Public Hearing at 7:58:36 PM. Councilmember Krienke SECONDED. Motion Carried.

 

 

 

 

 

Ordinances, Resolutions & Orders:

Mayor Colinas opened for consideration approval of Ordinance No. 382, amending Planning Commission Guidelines. Councilmember Krienke made a MOTION to approve Ordinance No. 382, amending Planning Commission Guidelines with the change to section 2.12.030 section D to replace ‘include posting a notice at City Hall’ with the phrase listed in the City Council Staff Report to say ‘include posting a notice at a visible location within City Hall.’ Councilmember Gallagher SECONDED. Motion Carried.

 

Mayor Colinas opened for consideration approval of Resolution No. 524, adopting the 2011-2016, 6 Year Street Plan. Councilmember Corpron-Smith made a MOTION to approve Resolution No. 524, adopting the 2011-2016, 6 Year Street Plan. Councilmember Steele SECONDED. Motion Carried.

 

Miscellaneous Business by Call of Councilmembers & City Officials:

Councilmember Steele wanted to know if the City tracked repairs per car for police vehicles, reported that the Librarian thought that people might be sleeping behind the library, and while walking through Brierwood Park it looks like something drove behind bathrooms and did some damage to the landscaping.

Councilmember Corpron-Smith welcomed Councilmember Gem back and thought a letter of thanks should be sent to Councilmember Nick.

Councilmember Krienke shared that SeaSkate had a good turn out despite the rain.

Councilmember Gem wanted to thank the Council for keeping her spot open while she was on leave.

 

Auditing of Accounts:

Mayor Colinas opened for consideration approval of the July 2010 Payroll Checks. Councilmember Steele made a MOTION to approve the July 2010 Payroll Checks No. 17206 through No. 17258 in the amount of $117,161.67 with Warrants No. 17222 being voided. Councilmember Krienke SECONDED. Motion Carried.

 

Mayor Colinas opened for consideration approval of the July 2010 Claim Checks.  Councilmember Steele made a MOTION to approve the July 2010 Claim Checks No. 21621 through No. 21667 in the amount of $175,093.15. Councilmember Corpron-Smith SECONDED. Motion Carried.

 

Mayor Colinas opened for consideration approval of the July 2010 Checks. Councilmember Steele made a MOTION to approve July 2010 checks No. 9856 through No. 9869 in the amount of $13,191.83. Councilmember Gallagher SECONDED. Motion Carried.

 

 

Adjournment:

Councilmember Corpron-Smith made a MOTION to adjourn. Councilmember Olson SECONDED. Mayor Colinas declared the meeting adjourned at 8:14:21 PM.
