BRIER CITY COUNCIL MINUTES

January 9, 2018

Mayor Colinas called the regular Brier City Council Meeting to order at 7:00 PM and the flag salute was given.

 

Roll Call:


Present: Mayor Colinas, Councilmember Gallagher, Joplin, Kaemingk, Krienke, Nick, Steele and Thorpe.

Staff: Clerk-Treasurer Swisher.

 

Public Requests & Oral Communications:

Marilyn Joplin, Brier, inquired about if a roadway has a sidewalk on one side all the way down that the speed limit can be 25 MPH, she would like to see Old Poplar Way changed to 25 MPH now that it is fully side walked.

 

Matt Smith, Brier, lives in Crestview Hills and was inquiring about the ordinance that limits commercial vehicles parking on the street.

 

Reports of Committees & City Officials:

Mayor Colinas received notice from County Councilmember Ryan that the County is allotting $40,000 in the 2018 budget for the City of Brier to help upgrade ADA ramps.

 

Councilmember Steele reported that she reviewed claim checks over the weekend.

 

Approval of Minutes:

Mayor Colinas opened for consideration approval of the Brier City Council Minutes of December 19, 2017. Motion: Approve the Brier City Council Minutes of December 19, 2017. Moved by Councilmember Nick, Seconded by Councilmember Gallagher. Motion Carried.

 

New Business, Petitions, Communications, Application Appeals:

Mayor Colinas opened for consideration confirmation of the Mayor's re-appointment of Donald Lane to the Civil Service Commission, Position No. 2 with a term set to expire October 31, 2023. Motion: Confirm the Mayor's re-appointment of Donald Lane to the Civil Service Commission, Position No. 2 with a term set to expire October 31, 2023. Moved by Councilmember Kaemingk, Seconded by Councilmember Steele. Motion Carried.

 

Miscellaneous Business by Call of Councilmembers & City Officials:

Mayor Colinas handed out a resolution that he would like the Council to approve regarding long time employee Rich Maag. Motion: Approve Resolution No. 569 Honoring Retiring City Employee Rich Maag. Moved by Councilmember Joplin, Seconded by Councilmember Kaemingk. Motion Carried.

 

Mayor Colinas opened for consideration of Mayor Pro-Tem Appointment for 2018. Councilmember Krienke Motion: Nominating Councilmember Kaemingk for Mayor Pro-Tem for 2018. Moved by Councilmember Krienke, Seconded by Councilmember Joplin. Motion Carried.

 

Mayor Colinas opened for consideration of appointments to SERS Board.Motion: Appoint Mayor Colinas as the representative to the SERS Board with Chief Catlett as the first alternate and Clerk-Treasurer Swisher as the second alternate. Moved by Councilmember Kaemingk, Seconded by Councilmember Steele. Motion Carried.


Mayor Colinas stated that we have no business for the January 16th Council Workshop meeting. Motion: Cancel the January 16th Council Workshop meeting. Moved by Councilmember Gallagher, Seconded by Councilmember Nick. Motion Carried.

 

Mayor Colinas reminded everyone about the Snohomish County 911 caucus meeting will be held on January 17th.

 

Councilmember Kaemingk will be contacting everyone about liaison assignments.

 

Auditing of Accounts:

Mayor Colinas opened for consideration approval of the December 2017 Payroll Checks. Motion: Approve the December 2017 Payroll Checks No. 32546 through No. 32548 and No. 32601 through No. 32615 and EFTs in the amount of $140,276.14. Moved by Councilmember Steele, Seconded by Councilmember Nick. Motion Carried.

 

Mayor Colinas opened for consideration approval of the December 2017 Claim Checks. Motion: Approve the December 2017 Claim Checks No. 32599 through No. 32621 and No. 32624 through No. 32671 in the amount of $207,466.24. Moved by Councilmember Steele, Seconded by Councilmember Joplin. Motion Carried.

Mayor Colinas declared the meeting adjourned at 7:37 PM.
