BRIER CITY COUNCIL MINUTES

August 25, 2020

Mayor Kaemingk called the regular Brier City Council Meeting to order at 7:18 PM and the flag salute was given.

 

Roll Call:

Present: Mayor Kaemingk, Councilmembers Gallagher, Joplin, Krienke, Marley, Nick and Steele.

Staff: Clerk-Treasurer Swisher.


Public Requests & Oral Communications:

Susan Weldon, Brier, asked if the website is going to be updated anytime soon; would like to see police stats on the website, updates about the police negotiations and any other updates for parks, sewers and maintenance.

 

James H. James, Brier, is concerned about the police as well and stated he has lived here for 46 years and this isn't the first time that we are not funding our police. Taxes keep going up but aren't being used to fund the things that we need. He would like to know why parks aren't free anymore and where the money is being diverted.

 

Reports of Committees & City Officials:

Councilmember Nick reviewed the claim checks on August 24th.

 

Approval of Minutes:

Mayor Kaemingk opened for consideration approval of the Brier City Council Minutes of August 18, 2020. Motion: Approve the Brier City Council Minutes of August 18, 2020, Moved by Councilmember Nick, Seconded by Councilmember Steele. Motion Carried.

 

Hearings:

Mayor Kaemingk opened the discussion on Ordinance No. 465.A, amending Chapter 18.40.040(D)(1) of the Brier Municipal Code relating to Flood Damage Prevention and Flood Hazards. Planner Flathman gave a brief overview of the amendments. Mayor Kaemingk opened the Public Hearing at 7:33 PM. Closed the Public Hearing at 7:34 PM.


Ordinances, Resolutions & Orders

Mayor Kaemingk opened for consideration approval of Ordinance No. 465.A, amending Chapter 18.40.040(D)(1) of the Brier Municipal Code relating to Flood Damage Prevention and Flood Hazards. Motion: Approve Ordinance No. 465.A, amending Chapter 18.40.040(D)(1) of the Brier Municipal Code relating to Flood Damage Prevention and Flood Hazards. Moved by Councilmember Nick, Seconded by Councilmember Joplin. Motion Carried.

 

Miscellaneous Business by Call of Councilmembers & City Officials:

Councilmember Steele stated that she is resigning her position number four as of August 31st at midnight due to a relocation to the east coast. Everyone expressed appreciation for Kerin's time in Brier and all she has contributed.

 

Motion: To have Valerie Rosman replace Councilmember Steele in position number four. Moved by Councilmember Steele, Seconded by Councilmember Krienke. Motion Carried.

 

Mayor Kaemingk reported to the Council that Robert Thorpe has resigned his position as of August 23, 2020.

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Nick asked to have Clerk-Treasurer Swisher contact the next two applicants that received votes from the Council to be interviewed.


Auditing of Accounts:

Mayor Kaemingk opened for consideration approval of the August 2020 Claim Checks Motion: Approve the August 2020 Claim Checks No. 41888 through No. 41913 and EFT transactions in the amount of $150,155.07. Moved by Councilmember Nick, Seconded by Councilmember Gallagher. Motion Carried.

 

Adjournment

Mayor Kaemingk declared the meeting adjourned at 7:57 PM.
