BRIER CITY COUNCIL MINUTES

February 28, 2023

Mayor Kaemingk called the regular Brier City Council Meeting to order at 7:00 PM and flag salute was given.

 

Roll Call:

Present: Mayor Kaemingk, Councilmembers Gallagher, Krienke, Lockhart, Marley, Moran, Nick, and Rosman.

Staff: Police Chief Almquist, Utility Clerk Zenk


Public Requests & Oral Communications:

ML Demorett - Brier, wanted to hear about the visit to AWC Action Days, specifically House Bill 1110.

Tony Corrado - Brier, shared that he reached out to the mayor about joining the Park Board. He has enjoyed attending the city's events over the years and wants to become more involved.

 

Reports of Committees & City Officials:

Mayor Kaemingk opened for a report from Councilmembers Rosman and Gallagher on AWC Action Days. Mayor Kaemingk and Councilmembers Rosman and Gallagher shared their experience at the 2-day AWC Action Days in Olympia. They met with Representative Duerr, Representative Kloba and Senator Stanford to discuss various bills and that they are keeping an eye on certain house bills.

Councilmember Marley reviewed Claims.

Councilmember Krienke attended the Planning Commission Feb. 22nd.

Councilmember Gallagher and Mayor Kaemingk attended a Public Works meeting this week.

Mayor Kaemingk attended the Snohomish County Mayors meeting.

 

Approval of Minutes:

Mayor Kaemingk opened for consideration approval of the Brier City Council Minutes of February 14, 2023. Motion: Approve the Brier City Council Minutes of February 14, 2023. Moved by Councilmember Nick, Seconded by Councilmember Lockhart. Motion Carried.

 

New Business:

Mayor Kaemingk opened for the confirmation of the mayor's appointment of Tony Corrado to the Park Board, Position No. 1 with a term set to expire September 15, 2025. Motion: Approve the Mayor's appointment of Tony Corrado to the Park Board, Position No. 1 with a term set to expire September 15, 2025. Moved by Councilmember Rosman, Seconded by Councilmember Nick. Motion Carried.

 

Ordinances, Resolutions & Orders:

Mayor Kaemingk opened for consideration approval of Resolution No. 597, amending the City Fee Schedule for 2023. Motion: Approve Resolution No. 597, amending the City Fee Schedule for 2023. Moved by Councilmember Gallagher, Seconded by Councilmember Marley. Councilmember Lockhart wanted to state for the record that he does not like to see these fee increases. Motion Carried.


Miscellaneous Business by Call of Councilmembers & City Officials:

Chief Almquist shared police department updates. The department received a $10,000 grant for police training. Officer Hawley has completed the Active Shooter Training and will be sharing his knowledge with City Staff. Snohomish County Sheriff's Department has agreed to cover shifts while the police department is short staffed and 16 residents are currently involved in the block watch program. Unfortunately, the candidate that was going through the hiring processes has been disqualified. Chief Almquist and the Mayor attended the DEM meeting and it was shared that the City of Brier received an Emergency Management acceptance letter. Councilmembers shared their appreciation for the Chief's online presence.


Auditing of Accounts:

Mayor Kaemingk opened for consideration approval of the February 2023 Claim Checks. Motion: Approve the February 2023 Claim Checks No. 44470 and 44471, Checks No. 44477 through No. 44501 and EFT Transaction in the amount of $96,675.24. Moved by Councilmember Marley, Seconded by Councilmember Gallagher. Motion Carried.

 

Adjournment

Mayor Kaemingk declared the meeting adjourned at 7:47 PM.
