BRIER CITY COUNCIL MINUTES

May 28, 2024

Mayor Kaemingk called the regular Brier City Council Meeting to order at 7:00 PM and flag salute was given.

 

Roll Call:

Present: Mayor Kaemingk, Councilmembers Gallagher, Marley, Othman, Allen and Rosman.

Staff: City Clerk Treasurer Swisher and City Planner Michaelis.

Absent: Councilmembers Krienke and Lockhart.


Public Requests & Oral Communications:

Congresswoman DelBene had to cancel her appearance here tonight, but plans on rescheduling in the future.

Brad Kreuger, Brier-Wanted to praise the Fire Departments response time during a medical emergency for his next-door neighbors.

Melissa Stuker, Brier-Wanted to share her opinion that people have to go through too many different agencies to report a crime, which is prolonging the process to prosecute and catch the criminals.

 

Reports of Committees & City Officials:

Mayor Kaemingk attended the Mayor's meeting, Department of Emergency Management meeting, Sno 911 and Solid Waste meeting.

Councilmember Gallagher reviewed Claim Checks and attended the Brier Emergency Operating Center for the Radio.

Councilmember Rosman observed the Planning Commission meeting.

Councilmember Othman reported on the Brier Elementary 2nd grade field trip to City Hall. The students got a tour of City Hall, Police Car, Public Works vehicles and a Fire Truck.

 

Approval of Minutes:

Mayor Kaemingk opened for consideration approval of the Brier City Council Minutes of May 14, 2024. Motion: Approve the Brier City Council Minutes of May 14, 2024. Moved by Councilmember Gallagher, Seconded by Councilmember Marley. Councilmember Rosman cited a typo, that "Library Board" should be capitalized. Motion Carried.

 

New Business:

Mayor Kaemingk opened for consideration approval of the appeal hearing date or transfer to Hearing Examiner. City Clerk Treasurer Swisher and City Planner Michaelis gave a brief overview of the appeal. Motion: Approve transfer of appeal to Hearing Examiner. Moved by Councilmember Gallagher, Seconded by Councilmember Rosman. Motion Carried.

 

Mayor Kaemingk opened for consideration the approval of the Mayor's appointment of Jill Espitia to the Park Board, Position No. 2 with a term set to expire September 15, 2025. Motion: Approve the Mayor's appointment of Jill Espitia to the Park Board, Position No. 2 with a term set to expire September 15, 2025. Moved by Councilmember Rosman, Seconded by Councilmember Allen. Motion Carried.

 

Miscellaneous Business by Call of Councilmembers & City Officials:

Councilmember Rosman attended a meeting at Department of Commerce about available grants for the Performing Arts. She would also like to discuss moving future subdivision approvals to a Hearing Examiner at a later date.

 

Auditing of Accounts:

Mayor Kaemingk opened for consideration approval of the May 2024 Claim Checks. Motion: Approve the May 2024 Claim Checks No. 45693 through No. 45697, Checks No. 45699 through No. 45727 and EFT transaction in the amount of $128,822.51 and voided Check No. 45636. Reason: lost in the mail, paid with visa card. Moved by Councilmember Gallagher, Seconded by Councilmember Marley. There was Council discussion. Motion Carried.

 

Adjournment

Mayor Kaemingk declared the meeting adjourned at 7:33 PM.
