BRIER PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES

July 16, 2014
7:00 PM

Chairman Marley called the Brier Planning Commission meeting to order at 7:00:56 PM.

 

ROLL CALL:

PRESENT:                                  Commissioner Marley, Weston, Wirch, Rosman and DeMorett; Councilmember Kaemingk. Commissioner Carroll arrived at 7:06:11 PM.

ABSENT:                                    Commissioner Scott.

STAFF:                                       City Planner Gaudette.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

Chairman Marley opened for consideration approval of the June 18, 2014 Planning Commission minutes. There was not a quorum to approve the June 18, 2014 Planning Commission minutes.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Councilmember Kaemingk discussed recent City Council activity.

 

PUBLIC REQUESTS & ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:

Joan McIntyre of 25th Ave W, would like to see a crosswalk painted on the road by the skate park. She feels it is unsafe for the children crossing the road. Councilmember Kaemingk recommended that she attend a City Council meeting with this suggestion.

 

PUBLIC HEARINGS:

Chairman Marley opened for discussion the rezone of the North Castle Way annexation area. City Planner Gaudette gave an overview of the process and area to be rezoned, with a recommendation for approval to City Council.

 

Chairman Marley opened the Public Hearing at 7:12:52 PM.

 

Tom Hanson of North Castle Way, he likes that Brier has a large minimum lot size.

 

Michelle Dean of North Castle Way, she is in favor of the annexation. Her family would feel safer with a City Police Department.

 

Peggy Dare of Brier, she is in favor of this annexation. She would like the Commissioners and City Council to consider a way to maximize open space.

 

Felix Smith of North Castle Way, his family has always appreciated Briers parks. He is in favor of keeping the minimum lot size at 12,500 square feet.

 

Chairman Marley closed the Public Hearing at 7:17:42 PM.

 

Chairman Marley asked what size are the lots in this area currently.

 

Greg Brown of 25th Ave W, asked about what plans are in place for extending sewer.

City Planner Gaudette explained the Local Improvement District process.

 

Commissioner Wirch is concerned about development potential and if there would be sidewalks added. He is also concerned about no street lights in this area. He would also like to see City limit and speed limit signs.

 

Commissioner DeMorett made a MOTION to recommend approval to City Council for the rezone of the North Castle Way annexation area. Commissioner Rosman SECONDED.  Motion carried.

 

MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS:

Commissioner DeMorett asked where they are on updating the Tree Ordinance.

Commissioner Weston recommended looking into using trees as screening.

Commissioner Weston asked when will they be looking at the Comprehensive Plan again.

 

ADJOURNMENT:

Commissioner Weston made a MOTION to adjourn. Commissioner Carroll SECONDED. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:38:11 PM.
