Commission Chairman  Szalda called the meeting to order at  4:03:28 PM .

ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Szalda, Nixdorf and Zenk.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Commissioner Nixdorf moved and Commissioner Zenk seconded to approve the minutes of October 10, 2007 and December 5, 2007. Motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS

A.                 DISCUSS ADDITION OF ACADEMY GRADUATE POLICE OFFICER LANGUAGE TO RULES

Commissioner Szalda opened for discussion the addition of Academy Graduate Police Officer Language to the rules. Chief Lane explained this type of applicant would be required to possess a current and valid Basic Law Enforcement Academy Certificate and Washington State Peace Officer Certification issued by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission. Applicants would be required to complete all testing and background requirements as set out in the Civil Service Rules. The applicants would be placed on a separate Academy Graduate List. Language was proposed and required amendments to the rules were discussed. It was determined Secretary Halverson would prepare the amendments for approval at the next regular civil service meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

A.                 DISCUSS CHANGE TO CIVIL SERVICE MEETING TIME

Commissioner Szalda opened for discussion changing the scheduled time of the Commission’s Regular meetings. Secretary Halverson informed the Commission the Council Chambers is no longer available for meetings during the day time hours as it is now used for issuance of Passports.  Discussion ensued regarding possible meeting times. It was determined Secretary Halverson would research the requirements to determine if an actual time is required to be set out in the rules. The issue will be further discussed at the next meeting.

The next Civil Service Meeting was scheduled for February 11, 2008 at 4:00 PM.
