BRIER CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MINUTES
April 23, 2014
Commission Chairman Nixdorf called the meeting to order at 4:03:00 PM
ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Nixdorf and Zenk.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 5, 2014 REGULAR MEETING: Commissioner Nixdorf moved and Commissioner Zenk seconded to approve the minutes of February 5, 2014. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
A. CERTIFICATION OF ACADEMY GRADUATE POLICE OFFICER ELIGIBILITY LIST:
Commissioner Nixdorf opened for discussion the certification of Academy Graduate Police Officer Eligibility List. Chief Lane was present and advised the board he will be retiring with his last day being April 30, 2014. He informed the Commission the Mayor has appointed Officer Catlett to Interim Chief and he will most likely be in attendance at the next Civil Service meeting.
Commissioner Nixdorf moved and Commissioner Zenk seconded to certify the Academy Graduate Police Officer Eligibility list. Motion carried.
B. DISCUSS APPOINTMENT OF NEW CIVIL SERVICE SECRETARY/EXAMINER:
Commissioner Nixdorf opened for discussion the appointment of a new Civil Service Secretary/Examiner. Ms. Halverson, current Secretary/Examiner, has announced she is planning on retiring end of June 2014 which will open the position for a new appointment. Civil Service Rules and RCW information was provided regarding the process for appointment. Paula Swisher, City Clerk/Treasurer, Mayor Colinas and Secretary Halverson provided input on the process and possible appointment options of personnel already in the service of the City. It was agreed to table the discussion until the next meeting when more information regarding appointment options are available.
