BRIER PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES

February 18, 2026
7:00 PM



Pro-Tem Chair DeMorett called the Brier Planning Commission meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

 

ROLL CALL:

Present: Commissioners DeMorett, Ficker, Hanson, Krueger and Maykovich.

Absent: Commissioners Campbell and Schneider.

Staff: City Planner Michaelis and Mayor Kaemingk

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

Pro-Tem Chair DeMorett opened for consideration approval of the January 21, 2026 Planning Commission minutes. Motion: Approve the January 21, 2026 Planning Commission minutes, Moved by Commissioner Krueger, Seconded by Commissioner Maykovich. Motion Carried.

 

STAFF UPDATES:

Councilmember Othman updated the Commissioners on recent Council activity.

City Planner Michaelis gave an update on the construction of the Decant Facility and Amphitheater. The Public Works shop is getting a new roof.

Mayor Kaemingk thanked the Commissioners for their service.

 

PUBLIC REQUESTS & ORAL COMMUNICATIONS: None.

 

PUBLIC HEARING:

Pro-Tem Chair DeMorett opened the Public Hearing at 7:05 PM, for a Plat Alteration No. PM26-01, to remove a native growth protection easement on Lot 5, 3123 227th Pl W and Lot 6, 3126 227th Pl W of the Plat of Brier Landing. City Planner gave a detailed review of the plat alteration, with a recommendation to approve with conditions.

James Robb owner of lot 6, they like the lot they live on and love living in the City of Brier. They would like to use the Native Growth area to install a sidewalk and plant various plants.

John Szalda of Brier, had heard some rumors about this Plat Alteration, but has since received accurate information and has no issue with removing the Native Growth area.

Alex Herbig of Brier, is opposed to removing this Native Growth area, these areas should be protected. He would like to see more native trees planted and protected. He feels we should keep these Native Growth areas.

Louise Nardi owner of lot 6, they have had to remove one damaged tree and replaced it with two more trees, which are being cared for to prevent any more damage. This Native Growth area is not accessible to public.

Commissioner Krueger asked about the requirement to plant new trees, they will have a two year maintenance requirement.

Commissioner Ficker asked what the owners are limited to in this Native Growth area currently.

 

Commissioner Hanson advised that thin strip Native Growth areas like this one do typically have wind fall in regards to trees, they do not do well in them.

The Public Hearing was closed at 7:34 PM.

Motion: Make a recommendation to City Council to approve the Plat Alteration No. PM26-01, to remove a native growth protection easement on Lot 5, 3123 227th Pl W and Lot 6, 3126 227th Pl W of the Plat of Brier Landing, Moved by Commissioner Hanson, Seconded by Commissioner Krueger. Motion Carried.

 

AGENDA FOR NEXT MEETING (March 18, 2026):

Planner Michaelis advised the Commissioners there might be a short plat or code amendments at the next meeting.

Commissioner Ficker will not be at the March meeting.

 

ADJOURNMENT:

Pro-Tem Chair DeMorett declared the meeting adjourned at 7:36 PM.
