    Wage: 50.09-64.12/per hour

    Summary:

    This is a skilled, technical position requiring extensive knowledge of current building codes, construction trades, and City ordinances pertaining to structures. Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision, enforce in a decisive, equitable and conscientious manner of the City's building codes and ordinances. This position serves as the City Building Official and is responsible for the enforcement of the State of Washington Building Code as amended by the State Building Code Council, and related construction codes and ordinances. Work involves the examination of plans and specifications; permit issuance; assessment of penalty fees for work without a permit, conducts field inspection of structures in all stages of construction, alteration, and repair for compliance with pertinent building and safety codes and ordinances.

    Position involves frequent contact with the general public as well as various public and private officials. The enforcement of these laws is repressive and often time frustrating for both the official and the public. Therefore, it requires understanding and the ability to communicate on a technical as well as rudimental level.

    Involves travel within the City using department vehicle. Familiarity with office procedures and performance of code enforcement related to administrative duties is required.

    Job Location and Equipment Utilized

    Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. On occasion, candidate may be outdoors for extended periods of time in all kinds of weather conditions. This position may require employee to wear eye and/or ear protection.

    This position is a full-time position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week. This position works on-site, no remote work.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Informs the public of necessary procedures for the application of permits.
    • Discusses with the public the feasibility of proposed projects in relationship to City codes and laws.
    • Checks plans for construction or alteration to insure that building types and dimensions are in compliance with building codes.
    • Checks designed or planned construction features to assure foundation and support the use of acceptable materials, and compliance with prevailing building, fire, plumbing, mechanical, sign codes, energy conservation, indoor air quality, and other applicable standards or requirements.
    • Reviews, processes, and issues permits.
    • Serves on the City Technical Review Committee to help coordinate projects inter-departmentally within the City.
    • Acts as a Fire Department designee in respect to Fire Code requirements when required.
    • Conducts on-site inspections during construction.
    • Verifies location on lot, dimensional and structural conformity to approved plans, proper installation of plumbing and mechanical equipment, and usage of approved building materials of the proper size and quality for that application.
    • Verifies that work is performed by persons in conformance with Washington State Contractor registration laws.
    • Notifies builders and installers of code violations and stipulates corrections required.
    • Writes and posts stop work orders when code violations necessitate complex work stoppage.
    • Notifies builders of corrections required.
    • Inspects abandoned buildings to see if owners should be required to demolish or bring them up to building standards.
    • Police the City to see that projects requiring permits are in compliance.
    • Keeps an accurate record of all permit and inspection activity and prepares reports for a permanent record of permit activity.
    • Attends meetings when requested.
    • Serves as a City resource person to contractor's association when required.
    • Attends seminars and workshops to continually update knowledge of the field when required.
    • Maintain regular attendance.

    Summary:

    This is clerical/technical position in the Police Department that requires performing duties that are of a confidential nature and requires a high degree of public contact functions, sometimes involving customers who are upset and traumatized. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, a polygraph exam and psychological exam may be required. This position reports directly to the Chief of Police.

    Job Location and Equipment Utilized

    The Police Clerk position usually works Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and performs the following duties: Work involved performing a variety of basic and advanced specialized office support work for the Brier Police Department. Accuracy and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information are critical performance factors. Duties include general record keeping, data entry, researching public safety information, customer service, following Federal, State and City rules and regulations. These duties are not to be considered conclusive for the position this job description shall serve as an illustration only of some of the typical duties.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Serves as receptionist of the department's public window;
    • Work independently with minimal or no supervision and effectively handle emergency situations.
    • Receives incoming telephone calls on a multi-line telephone console and provides information and routing of calls to appropriate staff person.
    • Set priorities on work assignments, perform numerous tasks simultaneously, coordinate with others to meet strict deadlines, and to maintain attention to detail and accuracy despite frequent interruptions.
    • Assists customers with requests for routine police services, including traffic violations, fingerprinting and firearm licensing and other related functions performed by the police records section.
    • Efficiently operate a variety of computer software applications and databases.
    • Verifies data, enters data, and edits reports or information on computerized record keeping system.
    • Provides logistic support to staff by monitoring base radio and computer aided dispatch and responds to information requests.
    • Responds to requests for police records information from the City's police officers, other law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and the general public. Researches and provides information in accordance with department policies and public disclosure/privacy act requirements. All records management and public records functions are performed under the supervision of the Public Records Officer and will adhere to the PRO's directives.
    • Works with prosecutor's office to provide criminal citations, case reports and follow-up information.
    • Requests information via ACCESS system to include Criminal History, Firearms (NICS) checks, Department of Licensing, WACIC, NCIC, WASIS, etc…
    • Efficiently operates traffic violations bureau, including preparation of court documents, maintaining files, dispersing of funds receipting and answering questions.
    • Conducts IBR checks and within the LERMS system to ensure reports are ready for submission to the FBI through NIBRS monthly.
    • Maintains property/evidence room, including accepting and handling evidence and found property, maintaining the chain of custody, appearing in court to testify. Obtaining appropriate authorization for destruction of evidence.
    • Serve as Computer Aided Dispatch and ACCESS coordinator (TAC) for the Police Department including ensuring all staff have all required training and are certified, reviewing compliance issues with auditor and maintaining such files as mandated.
    • Serve as confidential secretary to the Chief of Police when required and perform related responsibilities as required.

    Summary:

    Under close supervision, performs routine parks/public works maintenance as assigned.

    Job Location and Equipment Utilized

    Work is performed in an outdoor environment at City facilities and buildings in seasonal heat, cold, and all other weather conditions. Exposure to agricultural products, dirt, fumes, and traffic also occurs. Equipment utilized includes trucks to one and one-half tons, standard construction/landscaping equipment, such as tractors, riding and push mowers, blowers, chippers, pressure washers, and hand tools in a safe manner. Respond to the public in a courteous, responsive manner.

    • Clean and sanitize public restrooms; maintain facilities.
    • Pick up litter; empty waste receptacles; sweep and/or blow walkways and parking lots.
    • Weed and cultivate landscaped areas; water plants and lawn; operate power mowers and edger.
